This year is moving really fast. I hope yours is going according to plan; if not, don't give in to frustration. Remember, someone is always fighting a harder battle. This is not to undermine yours, but rather to say that one must keep going. A famous quote says, "Time heals all wounds." This is very true, and I spoke indirectly about this in my last post. Time is our best bet for becoming, achieving, and bringing to life that which is within us.
“The family is the test of freedom, because the family is the only thing that the free man makes for himself and by himself.” –Gilbert Chesterton
I could give thousands of examples to illustrate this simple yet powerful concept. It is one of those naturally occurring laws of nature that we subtly disregard. How did you feel when you first started driving? Today, it has become subconscious because time has made you a master of it.
Permit me to use an unusual example: when a young man comes of age and engages in sexual activity, say, at 18, he barely knows what he’s doing. Fast-forward ten years, and he is likely far more experienced. Okay, that was quite an example! But let’s imagine any job, for that matter. When one starts out, they are likely to struggle with tasks, but over time, they become truly proficient.
I have projects that I never really saw through; had I stuck with them, I would probably be an expert by now. I used to run a YouTube channel, but I wasn't consistent with content production, and it never took off. I could give reasons why I didn't see it through, but that would just be making excuses, and there is nothing I hate more than making excuses. So, let’s just say I threw in the towel too soon.
There is no way you can master something and not earn recognition for it. When you achieve mastery, growth and rewards abound because the world recognizes value.
Looking back at my life, the examples that support this rule of nature are many. I see people start things and never finish them. In the market, we say one must preserve their capital to survive long enough to eventually start winning. How could you possibly know what you could have been if you had just held on? I will always draw lessons from the marketplace because it is the only arena in life that forces you to truly reflect on who you are as a person. In other words, the market tells you when your ego is getting the best of you; it punishes a lack of discipline, kills pride, and enforces humility. If you are loud and obnoxious, it will quiet you down. There is no better place than the market to teach the lessons of life.
In a nutshell, it hates vices and rewards values. The beauty is that it promises complete freedom. This is guaranteed to those willing to take the time to become masters of themselves. Like everything else, one attains mastery over time, as my graph depicts. The graph is not a straight line; you can see that the road to mastery has bumps, too.
Keep working: time plays out in your favor
I hate to sound like a motivational speaker, but having seen the mastery curve play out personally and in others, I have to chip in a few words of encouragement: keep going. Adapt if you must, change if you must, or withdraw if you must, but never stop until you gain that freedom, for you were born to be free. Become a master and let time play in your favor.
